The Los Angeles Sparks are proud to announce that Thursday, August 27 is “City of Pasadena Night” as the LA Sparks will take on the Phoenix Mercury at 7:30PM at the STAPLES Center. The City of Pasadena will be honored throughout the game. Mayor Bill Bogaard and Councilman Chris Holden will serve as honorary coaches, while youth groups will get to play a pre-game scrimmage, sing the national anthem and perform during halftime. Pasadena youth will also help with the game by working in the Sparks front office the week before and shadowing Sparks’ staff during game. Participating organizations will include John Muir High School Cheerleaders and Girls Basketball Team, Pasadena High School Girls Basketball Team, Blair IB School, and the Sue Bee Dance Academy.
Community organizer Ishmael Trone and Youth Advocate Kardia Pinckney originally came up with the idea for “Pasadena Night” as a way to show all that Pasadena does to encourage the youth of their community. The Los Angeles Sparks have been very active in the Pasadena community over the years.
Sparks team president Kristin Bernert tells Pasadena Journal, “Our Head Coach Michael Cooper is not only a Pasadena native and Pasadena City College Alumnus, but the City of Pasadena and the LA Sparks share an additional common goal: bettering the lives of children in our communities. The Sparks organization is focused on inspiring future generations on the court and in the community.”
“This event at STAPLES Center is a continuation of our partnership. It is our intention to make this night something the Pasadena residents can look forward to and take part in for years to come,” says Councilman Chris Holden.
August 27th is also the Sparks’ “Go Green Night” presented by Waste Management. The game will feature a Green Expo on the concourse and tips to help fans go green, along with booths for the City of Pasadena. It’s fitting that “The City of Pasadena Night” is taking place on the same day, considering the city’s dedication to the environment.
Special ticket offers for the evening include $15 floor seats for Pasadena residents. For more information, click here.
