ted-fewTroop 40 is considered a young Troop in the eyes of many, but the leaders in this Troop have made many strides towards helping young men in one of our toughest communities become good leaders. This past May SM Ted Few was recognized as one of the nations top SM by the National Council of the BSA at its National Annual Meeting in Orlando Florida.

Troop 40 was born after the tragedies in Halloween 1993. Three innocent children were slain while trick or treating by gang members, and the city of Pasadena sought solutions for its gang problems. The San Gabriel Valley Council, Pasadena Fire Department, JPL, and the Pasadena Police Department came together and formed Troop 40 out of the First AME church in northwest Pasadena.

Church member Theodore Few accepted the challenge of Scout Master. With his leadership the Troop quickly grew and boys from all over NW Pasadena and South Altadena came to learn living skills, be better community members, and just plain have fun. The Troop has now grown into a full Scouting family with the additions of a Pack and a Crew and has seen many young men achieve Eagle Scout Rank.

Ted was recognized for his dedicated commitment to the Troop, the council, the BSA and the community. Ted exemplifies what a Scout leader is by giving every young man the opportunity to become a leader and have fun while leading.
